Our beginning and first glimpse...

In February 2008 Michael and I started our IVF journey. After years of not becoming pregnant, the IVF route was our last resort. Age was now becoming a factor and time was running out. My insurance for IVF at work is not the best and it basically gave us one try. In months preceding this process, I worked to get my body in the best shape I could. I had been on Weight Watchers since September 2007 and from my heaviest weight, lost about 28 pounds and went down 2 sizes. I was feeling good! Coffee, Diet Coke and all caffiene was given up as I knew there were no health benefits to them. Oh how I do miss my coffee though!

March came and we got the green light to start injections. They were a piece of cake and I didn't need Michael's help. Then we got the news that our scheduled egg retrieval was going to be on March 28th. I was more excited than nervous. I'm not too sure how Michael was feeling at this point. The procedure was so simple and painless and went much easier than I anticipated. When I awoke the doctor reported they were able to retrieve 11 eggs. That was one more than what we were targeting for.
Off we went to go home and rest until they called us back a couple of days later. The day after the retrieval we got the call from the doctor's office with our fertilization report. Of the 11 retrieved, 7 of them fertilized. We were scheduled to come back on Monday for the transfer.

Now it was Monday and back up to the doctor's office we went. They gave me a Valium (which I had never had before) and wow - it was nice! VERY relaxing. We then went into the exam room and through ultrasound guidance, the doctor transferred two embryos. This was Michael's first glimpse of an ultrasound and he was thoroughly fascinated with it. So we waited 10 minutes and then we got to go home. I took 3 days off from work to rest to help ensure those little embyros stuck good.

Here is our very first picture of our babies were were hoping to be.

Now the dreaded two week wait begins....
