22 weeks, Echocardiograms and 3D

August 18, 2008
At 22 weeks and 3 days I went back for a follow up for the level 2 ultrasound. Although the fluid is gone from Baby B, now Kiera, we wanted to be sure by having an echocardiogram done. Extra fluid could mean a congenital defect so this was one more way to make sure we were in the clear. All three babies were being checked as a precaution.

And all three passed with flying colors!

This was also my birthday today so I asked the ultrasound technician if the doctor did the echo in 2D or 3d. She asked why and I mentioned it was my birthday and thought it would be a great gift to see what my babies looked like. She said they were behind schedule that day but if I came back on a level 1 day, she could do it then.

On the way out I saw the genetic counselor that I had met with at week 11 and told her that the fluid was gone and all the babies looked great. I mentioned to her and the receptionists about coming back for the 3D pictures and they put me in for a couple days later.

We got some great shots of Liam (below) but the girls who are normally photgenic, were not cooperating. They were faced inward toward my spine and when that happens, the ultrasound doesn't have enough fluid to get a good shot. The pictures of the girls make them look deformed (which they are not) so we won't be posting them. So delivery day is when we'll be able to see their precious faces.
